Accessibility Statement

Last Updated: January 28, 2026

GradeWithAI is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including teachers and administrators with disabilities. We have designed and developed our platform to meet accessibility standards and provide an inclusive experience for everyone.

Conformance Status

GradeWithAI is fully conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. This means that our platform meets all Level A and Level AA success criteria as defined by the W3C.

We also comply with:

  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements

Accessibility Features

GradeWithAI is built using Radix UI, an industry-standard accessible component library. The following accessibility features are implemented throughout our platform:

Keyboard Navigation

  • All interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields, menus) are fully accessible via keyboard
  • Skip navigation links allow users to bypass repetitive content
  • Tab navigation works through all interactive elements in logical order
  • Enter and Space keys activate buttons and controls
  • Arrow keys navigate within dropdown menus, select inputs, radio groups, and tabs
  • Escape key closes dialogs, modals, and dropdown menus

Focus Management

  • All interactive elements display visible focus indicators when focused via keyboard
  • Focus indicators use a consistent, high-contrast ring that adapts to light and dark modes
  • Focus is properly managed when opening and closing dialogs and modals
  • Focus states are visually distinct from hover and active states

Screen Reader Support

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy (h1 through h6)
  • ARIA labels on all interactive elements including navigation, buttons, and form fields
  • ARIA live regions announce dynamic content updates to screen readers
  • Decorative images and icons are hidden from screen readers using aria-hidden
  • Meaningful images include descriptive alt text
  • Screen reader-only text provides additional context where needed
  • Dialog and modal titles are properly announced
  • Form error messages are associated with their inputs and announced

Visual Design

  • Color contrast ratios meet WCAG AA standards (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Dark mode support for users who prefer reduced brightness or have light sensitivity
  • Respects user's prefers-reduced-motion setting to minimize or disable animations
  • Text can be resized up to 200% using browser zoom without loss of functionality
  • Information is not conveyed by color alone
  • Form validation errors are indicated visually and programmatically

Forms and Inputs

  • All form fields have associated labels
  • Required fields are clearly indicated
  • Error messages identify the field in error and describe how to fix it
  • Error messages are linked to inputs via aria-describedby for screen reader users
  • Select dropdowns, checkboxes, and radio buttons are fully keyboard accessible
  • Sufficient time is provided to complete forms

Language and Content

  • Page language is declared as English (lang="en")
  • Clear and simple language is used where possible
  • Consistent navigation and layout throughout the application
  • Meaningful link text that describes the destination
  • Page titles accurately describe the content

Assistive Technology Compatibility

GradeWithAI has been tested and is compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen Readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Voice Control: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control (macOS/iOS)

Third-Party Content

While GradeWithAI is fully accessible, some content may come from third-party sources:

  • PDF Documents: Student submissions uploaded as PDFs depend on the accessibility of the original document. We encourage users to create accessible documents.
  • LMS Content: Content imported from learning management systems (Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.) reflects the accessibility of the source material.
