A final grade calculator answers the most useful end-of-term question: what score do I need on the final exam to finish with a specific course grade? It separates the coursework already completed from the final exam, then solves for the missing exam score. You need three values from your gradebook or syllabus: your current grade, your target overall grade, and the percentage weight of the final.
Convert the final weight to a decimal, then solve: required final = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. If your current grade is 87%, your goal is 90%, and the final is worth 25%, the required score is (90 − 87×0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 99%.
A required score above 100% means the target is mathematically out of reach through the final alone, unless extra credit is available. The calculator also shows the highest possible course grade if you earn 100% on the final. Use that ceiling to choose a realistic target or ask whether ungraded work and extra credit can still change the coursework average.
Use the grade for completed coursework before the final is added. Some LMS gradebooks display a running grade normalized across completed assignments, while others include the ungraded final as a zero. If the final already appears as a zero, find the current grade excluding it or use the category averages in the weighted grade calculator.
The result is mathematical, not a forecast of exam performance. Curves, extra credit, dropped assignments, category minimums, and teacher rounding policies can change the official grade. Check the syllabus and use the calculator as a planning target rather than a promise.
