Constraint-aware randomization
Paste lists of students who shouldn't sit together (behavior, testing, IEP) and lists who should be adjacent (peer tutoring, ELL, SEL). The shuffler respects both sets of constraints across up to 50 attempts.
Separate-these constraints (don't seat adjacent)
Keep-together constraints (seat adjacent)
50-attempt satisfaction with graceful fallback
Re-shuffle infinitely until the chart feels right

Layouts teachers actually use
Four base layouts cover most classrooms. Adjust seats-per-row to match your room. The rendered chart is print-ready — tape it inside your gradebook or hand it to a substitute.
Rows (traditional grid)
Groups (tables of 4)
U-shape (discussion or seminar)
Pairs (partner work)

About this tool
The free classroom seating chart generator teachers use when the class list changes on day one and the vice principal walks in on day two. Paste a roster, pick a layout (rows, groups, U-shape, pairs), set seats per row, and add separation or grouping constraints. Chart renders instantly, fully client-side — nothing uploaded, nothing saved. Print a binder copy or share the link.
Design-tool seating charts assume you have 30 minutes and a graphic-designer eye. This one is built for the "class starts in 6 minutes" case. Paste names, click generate, done. Add constraints ('separate Ava and Marcus', 'keep Priya near the front') and the randomizer respects them. Shuffle as many times as you want until you like the result. Print-ready format works without fiddling.
Paste-a-roster entry, not drag-and-drop
Constraint-aware randomization (separate / keep-together)
4 layouts: rows, groups, U-shape, pairs
Client-side only — roster never leaves your browser
Substitute teachers inheriting a class. First-week-of-school teachers who need a chart before names are memorized. IEP coordinators arranging accommodations. Testing-day teachers rearranging for state exams. Homeschool co-ops and after-school programs. Music and band directors need the band-seating variant. The generator treats every case the same: roster in, chart out.
Separation: paste groups of students who shouldn't sit near each other (behavior conflicts, testing integrity, IEP accommodations). Keep-together: paste pairs or clusters who should be adjacent (peer tutoring, ELL pairings, social-emotional support). The randomizer tries 50 shuffles to satisfy both sets of constraints — if they conflict, the tool flags it and falls back to best-effort placement.
No accounts. No cloud storage. No uploads. The roster you paste stays in your browser tab and disappears when you close it. That's intentional — student names are PII, and a seating chart tool shouldn't require a data-privacy review. Print a paper copy for the binder; share a screenshot in your PLC; copy the text to paste into your sub plan.
How it works
One student per line or comma-separated. Works with any class size.
Pick rows, groups, U-shape, or pairs. Optionally add separation or pairing rules.
Click generate, shuffle as many times as you want, print or copy. Roster stays local.
Hear from teachers who are saving time and providing better feedback.
“For Chadwick users, GradeWithAI has improved feedback efficiency and effectiveness, as it is grounded in existing platforms and is highly adaptable.”

“More impressive though is that it corrects student answers not simply using a pre-written answer, but by following the thought process they've pursued.”

“I've really enjoyed using the GradeWithAI program. It saves me a ton of time, especially when I have class sizes of 35 or 36 students times five.”

“GradeWithAI doesn't just grade. It gives the student reasoning as to why every point is awarded or not awarded. That is a very valuable thing for the students.”

“GradeWithAI [provides] students with timely individualized feedback on their homework assignments and formative assessments. This is a job that is virtually impossible for a teacher to do on a regular basis.”

“Students have also appreciated the consistency and immediacy of the feedback I can provide through GradeWithAI. This has enabled them to make necessary corrections and achieve their desired scores on any assignment.”
