Mini-lesson templates follow a specific four-part structure — connection, teaching point, active engagement, link — that makes the whole thing fit into 10 minutes without feeling rushed.

The four-part mini-lesson architecture

Connection: 1-2 minutes linking today's teaching to yesterday's or to students' current work. Teaching point: 2-3 minutes stating explicitly what you're teaching and why. Active engagement: 2-3 minutes where students try the move with a partner or in their own work. Link: 1 minute sending students off to apply it in independent time. This template includes all four sections with suggested minute counts.
