The small details that make a spelling-worksheet tool faster than typing 15 words into a Word doc.
About this tool
Second grade is the year long-vowel patterns start showing up, and with them, a whole new class of spelling errors. A 2nd grader writing 'rane' for 'rain' or 'bote' for 'boat' hasn't yet sorted out which vowel team spells which long-vowel sound. The 2nd grade spelling words on this page target exactly those patterns: ai/ay for long-a, ee/ea for long-e, oa/ow for long-o, plus consonant blends (dr-, sp-, str-) and the -ing/-ed inflectional endings. Use the generator above to turn any of these 2nd grade spelling word lists into a 10-word test, a practice packet, or a spelling bee warm-up. The formats stay consistent across the week so students can focus on the patterns instead of re-learning the worksheet.
The biggest leap in 2nd grade spelling is realizing that 'long a' can be spelled four different ways (a_e as in 'cake', ai as in 'rain', ay as in 'day', and occasionally eigh as in 'eight') and that context - usually word position - tells you which one. The vowel-teams approach groups words by pattern: all the -ain words together, all the -ay words together. Pattern mastery beats word-by-word memorization every time.
Long-a: rain, train, pay, day, cake, snake
Long-e: keep, sleep, read, bean, meet, team
Long-o: boat, coat, show, snow, bone, home
Blends: drum, dress, spin, spot, string, strong
-ing/-ed: jumping, running, played, hopped
Watch for vowel-team swaps (rane/rain, tode/toad), consonant doubling confusion (runing/running), and the 'magic e' miss (hom/home). The spelling worksheet generator above lets you build worksheets that target one specific error type at a time - for example, 10 words that all use the doubled-consonant -ing rule.
Monday: introduce the pattern with 8-10 words. Tuesday/Wednesday: practice worksheets (write + sentence use). Thursday: peer quiz. Friday: 10-word test. Generate Monday's pattern word list with the tool above; Friday's test reuses the same list with the generator's test-format option.

“For Chadwick users, GradeWithAI has improved feedback efficiency and effectiveness, as it is grounded in existing platforms and is highly adaptable.”

“More impressive though is that it corrects student answers not simply using a pre-written answer, but by following the thought process they've pursued.”

“I've really enjoyed using the GradeWithAI program. It saves me a ton of time, especially when I have class sizes of 35 or 36 students times five.”

“GradeWithAI doesn't just grade. It gives the student reasoning as to why every point is awarded or not awarded. That is a very valuable thing for the students.”

“GradeWithAI [provides] students with timely individualized feedback on their homework assignments and formative assessments. This is a job that is virtually impossible for a teacher to do on a regular basis.”

“Students have also appreciated the consistency and immediacy of the feedback I can provide through GradeWithAI. This has enabled them to make necessary corrections and achieve their desired scores on any assignment.”
