About this tool
Dolch sight words for kindergarten means the first two Dolch levels: pre-primer (40 words) and primer (52 words). Together that's 92 words a kindergartener should be able to recognize on sight by May. These aren't words you sound out - they're words you see-and-say instantly. A kindergartener who automatizes 'the', 'and', 'is', 'to', 'you' reads 'The dog is at my house' fluidly. A kindergartener still decoding those words reads haltingly and loses the meaning. This page has the complete kindergarten Dolch sight words list for both levels, plus the generator above builds tracing, writing, and flashcard worksheets calibrated to kindergarten handwriting (oversized letters, primary lined paper).
The 40 pre-primer Dolch words include the most foundational function words a kindergartener meets in emergent readers: a, and, big, can, come, down, find, go, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, see, the, to, two, up, we, where, you. These are the first words on the first page of almost every beginning reader. Master these in fall; primer comes in winter and spring.
Pre-primer (40 words): target for fall semester
Primer (52 words): target for winter and spring
Total: 92 kindergarten Dolch words by May
Recognition standard: 30+ words per 30 seconds
Kindergarteners need oversized letters and primary lined paper. The spelling worksheet generator above has a kindergarten preset that produces traceable dotted letters at 3/4 inch height, with ample writing space below. Pick 8-10 words per worksheet (more than that overwhelms). Most K teachers run one Dolch worksheet per week, rotating through pre-primer in fall and primer after winter break.
Worksheets are only part of the picture. Sight word mastery happens through massed repetition across many channels: flashcards (5 minutes, twice daily), sight word readers (Bob Books style), word walls, and sight word 'I Spy' during classroom transitions. The worksheet is Monday; the flashcards and reading are Tuesday through Friday.

“For Chadwick users, GradeWithAI has improved feedback efficiency and effectiveness, as it is grounded in existing platforms and is highly adaptable.”

“More impressive though is that it corrects student answers not simply using a pre-written answer, but by following the thought process they've pursued.”

“I've really enjoyed using the GradeWithAI program. It saves me a ton of time, especially when I have class sizes of 35 or 36 students times five.”

“GradeWithAI doesn't just grade. It gives the student reasoning as to why every point is awarded or not awarded. That is a very valuable thing for the students.”

“GradeWithAI [provides] students with timely individualized feedback on their homework assignments and formative assessments. This is a job that is virtually impossible for a teacher to do on a regular basis.”

“Students have also appreciated the consistency and immediacy of the feedback I can provide through GradeWithAI. This has enabled them to make necessary corrections and achieve their desired scores on any assignment.”
