Word problems that don't repeat
The word-problem generator varies the scenario — sports, animals, food, measurement, time — across every item so students aren't pattern-matching. Specify a context (sports, ancient Egypt, zoo) or let the generator vary.

Maya planted 8 rows of sunflowers. Each row has 12 plants. How many sunflowers did she plant?
At the zoo, 3 pandas eat 4 kg of bamboo each per day. How much bamboo do they eat in a week?
A soccer team scored 36 goals over 6 games. What was their average per game?

About this tool
"Ella ate 3/8 of the pie and her brother ate 1/4. How much was left?" That's fraction arithmetic hiding inside a real question, and students have to first decide it's a subtraction (or a fraction-of-a-whole) problem before they touch the denominators. This fraction word problems generator writes those scenarios across 4th–6th grade — recipes, distances, share-of-a-pizza, garden fractions — with number sizes calibrated to grade level. Every worksheet is fresh; the answer key is automatic. Open the generator above, request "5th grade fraction word problems, unlike denominators, 12 problems," and your worksheet is ready for the copy room.
By 4.NF.B.3 students solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators. 5.NF.A.2 extends to unlike denominators. 5.NF.B.6 and 5.NF.B.7 add multiplication and division of fractions in contexts. 6.NS.A.1 formalizes dividing a fraction by a fraction. Word problems are where all that procedural work earns its keep.
For 4th graders, scenarios use friendly denominators (halves, thirds, quarters, eighths) and like-denominator operations only. For 5th grade, denominators widen, unlike-denominator problems enter, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers appears ("2/3 of 15 students"). For 6th, you get fraction-by-fraction division ("2/3 ÷ 1/4") inside real contexts like distance-per-gallon. Every regenerate rotates the scenario family.
Part-whole scenarios (share of a pizza, portion of a bag)
Comparison fractions ("how much more" problems)
Fraction-of-a-set multiplication contexts
Fraction-division measurement scenarios for 6th
These work best as the application half of a two-part lesson — procedural practice with the fraction problems generator first, then word problems to see who can transfer. Also strong as an end-of-unit performance task when you select mixed-operation sets. Hand completed pages to the Ez Grader for instant percentage calculation.
How it works

Lock a context (sports, animals, food). Set difficulty (easy, medium, hard).
Copy the text or print directly. Toggle the answer key for teacher vs. student version.

“For Chadwick users, GradeWithAI has improved feedback efficiency and effectiveness, as it is grounded in existing platforms and is highly adaptable.”

“More impressive though is that it corrects student answers not simply using a pre-written answer, but by following the thought process they've pursued.”

“I've really enjoyed using the GradeWithAI program. It saves me a ton of time, especially when I have class sizes of 35 or 36 students times five.”

“GradeWithAI doesn't just grade. It gives the student reasoning as to why every point is awarded or not awarded. That is a very valuable thing for the students.”

“GradeWithAI [provides] students with timely individualized feedback on their homework assignments and formative assessments. This is a job that is virtually impossible for a teacher to do on a regular basis.”

“Students have also appreciated the consistency and immediacy of the feedback I can provide through GradeWithAI. This has enabled them to make necessary corrections and achieve their desired scores on any assignment.”
